SINGLE PARENT ADOPTIONS

Yes, you too, can adopt!

You will be at a disadvantage in adopting a healthy Caucasian newborn within the United States because most birthparents prefer married couples. Yet, some singe parents are successful in doing so. Your chances are enhanced if you are open to adopting a child who is a racial minority, an older child, or a child with special needs.

You may adopt a child through an adoption agency, or adopt independently using the services of an adoption attorney. Older children and  children with special needs are placed in adoptive homes by the Oregon Department of Human Services and agencies working with the Special Needs Adoption Coalition.

You may also adopt a child from another country.  Certain countries which are open to Americans adopting will allow single parents to adopt, others permit only married couples to adopt from their country.
